Stealing Time is run by a small, dedicated team carefully chosen by Alex, the proprietor.
“When I vacationed here in 2017, leaving Toronto – my home of 55 years – was the furthest thing from my mind. But I fell in love with the beauty of the country, the kindness of the people, and the allure of a simpler life.
By the next year, I had made Costa Rica my home.
Now, with Stealing Time, I hope to share this extraordinary place with like-minded people who seek not just a vacation, but a transformative space where they can steal some quality time for themselves.
ABOUT COSTA RICA
Costa Rica may cover just 0.03% of the Earth’s landmass, but it is home to an astonishing 5% of the planet’s biodiversity.
The country is a global leader in sustainability, generating 99% of its energy from renewable sources. Its dedication to conservation has also reversed deforestation, doubling forest cover from 21% in the 1980s to 52% today—an inspiring blueprint for the world.
In 2013, Costa Rica transformed its zoos into wildlife sanctuaries and reserves, further underscoring its commitment to protecting nature. This followed a landmark decision in 2012 to ban trophy hunting entirely.
The nation’s thriving middle class is largely credited to a bold decision in 1949 to abolish its army, redirecting resources into education and healthcare.

We celebrate diversity, fostering a welcoming environment rooted in respect and inclusivity for all.
While we’re happy to arrange private chefs, we encourage you to experience the flavor of Esterillos by enjoying breakfast at a beachside soda or dining at our local restaurants.
We avoid using toxic chemicals, so you may occasionally encounter a spider or gecko in your space. We encourage you to name them, they’re harmless and beneficial little guests. If you’d prefer not to share your accommodations, we’re happy to rehome them for you.
We believe in supporting our community, so the amount you pay for services like massages, yoga, catering, or surf instruction goes directly to the talented locals providing them—every penny.
While there’s a small markup on items in our gift shop, 100% of those proceeds go to Jorge’s turtle sanctuary.
We pay our incredible team well and treat them with care. That said, tipping is always appreciated.
OUR TEAM
Brayan is your concierge. He works hard to make your stay exceptional.
Jessica is your housekeeper. She’s happy to come in daily to refresh the apartments on your schedule, or to leave you be until you ask.
Luba is your groundskeeper. He’ll happily supply you with as many of our home-grown coconuts and bananas as you’d like, and prefers rakes to leaf blowers to maintain the tranquility of our property.
Shannon is our special guest liaison. Originally from British Columbia, she’s been hosting in Costa Rica for 18 years, and knows all. If you have questions about moving to Costa Rica, or require a helicopter from SJO, we call on Shannon to help.
Nahum is our head of maintenance. He basically built the place, and knows it inside out. He’s only around to fix things, so you won’t see him unless you break something.
We have a selection of local masseuses, aestheticians, yoga and pilates teachers, trainers, photographers, caterers and even a tattoo artist, should the spirit move you. Just ask.
